Project that reformulates the law of rest for truck drivers and extends the maximum journey allowed for professionals by two hours
Brasília – The Chamber of Deputies has just approved a project that reformulates the law of rest for truck drivers and extends the maximum allowed journey for professionals by two hours.
If the text is also approved by the Senate, truck drivers will be able to have a daily journey of 12 hours – eight regular hours, plus four extra hours. The driver, however, will only be able to work the last two hours a day if there is a collective agreement between employer and employees.
The law voted by the deputies modifies the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) and the Brazilian Traffic Code (CBT), due to changes made to both laws in 2012.
The text supported by the deputies also establishes an interval between shifts of at least eight hours and a weekly rest period of 32 hours for truck drivers. The maximum continuous driving time, according to the project, is now 5,5 hours.
In the newsroom, it also passed the toll exemption for suspended axles of empty trucks and for semi-trailer trailers.
