CES 2024 presents a look at logistics in the coming years

CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is a major technology event that takes place annually, and its most recent edition took place in Las Vegas, USA, between the 9th and 12th of January. Along with transparent TVs and color-changing cell phones, some technological innovations related to logistics were also presented.

The main theme of the fair as a whole was, unsurprisingly, the use of technologies involving artificial intelligence. In this sense, several companies presented new developments in the field of autonomous cargo vehicles, focusing on safety improvements and large-scale production plans. An interesting example is Continental, whose vehicles will use the Aurora Driver system, and will be classified as level 4 automation, no longer requiring any human input to drive the vehicle. The company's plan is to produce these vehicles from 2027.

It wasn't just truck bodies that got smarter. Goodyear presented a partnership with Gatik, a company specializing in autonomous vehicles, to integrate data from tire sensors into vehicle systems, providing even more information about driving conditions in real time.

Still in the field of vehicles, KIA revealed at the fair the PBV (acronym for “Platform Beyond Vehicle” – platform beyond the vehicle), a new line of electric cars with multiple uses. The larger, cargo models feature rails and modules that allow the automatic passage of contents coming from a warehouse separation line or even from another vehicle.

Advances in the use of robotics for various tasks were also another highlight of the event. The startup Mobinn showed a semi-autonomous delivery robot that is capable of going up and down stairs. Another interesting novelty was the presentation of mobile “locker” robots, which combine the convenience of lockers with mobility to expand service coverage and reduce travel.

In short, CES 2024 highlighted significant advances in new technologies for logistics, signaling a more autonomous and efficient future Supply Chain.
