How can data analytics influence supply chain decisions?

Monica Barros, ILOS Market Intelligence Manager, responds.

O ILOS Award, which chooses the best logistics service providers in Brazil, comes from an intense survey that aims to find out which supply chain partners they recommend among large companies. The data gathered by respondents from different segments – such as oil and gas, food, retail, among others – are analyzed by ILOS and compiled into a Panorama, which reflects the main challenges and opportunities in Logistics in the opinion of contractors.

On this subject, we spoke with Monica Barros, ILOS Market Intelligence Manager, who talks about how data analysis can help managers guide strategic decisions.

What is the purpose of Panorama Melhores Logísticos Operators?

The panorama is a bench of business practices in the area of logistics. With it, companies can quickly compare themselves with the market average, and check whether their practices are in line with those that other organizations are working on as best practices.

Does the ILOS Award publish the best firsthand?

Yes. In order to reach the nominees and finalists of the ILOS Award, we got in touch with the big companies in Brazil with the objective of discovering the best logistics service providers. As we deal with an open list, companies can vote for their partners, or the companies they have as a reference, and the complete data is later gathered in the Panorama of the Best ILOS Logistics Operators.

What is Panorama's main contribution to the Logistics segment?

The Panorama is a sectoral analysis that is important for industries to access, because when hiring companies they can start from a list of the most reputable organizations, which are those indicated in the survey. On the other hand, for the logistics operator, it is essential to have access to this information so that it can work on its market opportunities.

How can this sectoral analysis point out business opportunities to logistics operators?

The Panorama indicates, for example, the origin of the votes by segment (Food, Chemical and Petrochemical, etc.). Companies are often able to visualize, by the origin of the votes, that they were voted in a segment that they do not yet operate, and these are observed by them as a business opportunity.

How do ILOS Panoramas help managers in decision making?

If we observe the Cost Overview, for example, it provides information on how much logistics costs represent for Brazilian companies in relation to net revenue. Through this data, the organization is able to understand, if the market average is 8,5, if it is above or below the practiced and from there make its decisions. It is a warning for the company to position itself and understand the scenario about what needs to change in order to align itself with the market benchmark.

What launches are planned for 2015?

The next one will be Panorama Supply Chain Finance, the result of an ILOS survey with the largest Brazilian companies, which summarizes the opportunities that organizations have to improve finances through the supply chain, that is, to improve the financial health of companies. . This release is scheduled for the first half of 2015.
