Crisis values Logistics and Foreign Trade professionals

A study by the consulting firm Robert Half points to an increase in the average salary for management positions in both sectors.

The current Brazilian economic scenario, with companies increasingly seeking to reduce costs and exploring international markets, has valued some professionals. Among them are those aimed at the Logistics and Foreign Trade segments. In management positions, there is even an expectation of an increase in average salaries, in rates that vary from 3% to 6,9%, generous percentages in times of recession.

The analysis is part of the Guia Salarial 2016 study, prepared by recruitment consultancy Robert Half, with a branch in São Paulo.

The survey was completed at the end of last year, based on interviews with candidates, market perception of consultants, surveys with executives and economic trends.

The study points out that, among the most valued positions in the market, is the Logistics Manager. A professional in this role, last year, had a salary of BRL 8 to BRL 21 in small or medium-sized companies (with annual revenues of up to BRL 500 million) or BRL 10 to BRL 26,7 million thousand in large companies (annual revenues greater than R$ 500 million). This year, your monthly earnings should range from R$9 to R$21, up 3,4% in the first case, and from R$12,5 to R$26, 6,9% more, in the second category.

In the case of a foreign trade coordinator, in small or medium-sized companies, salaries must increase by 3%, ranging from R$ 4,5 to R$ 12 to R$ 5 to BRL 12 thousand. In large companies, the increase will be 3,4%, changing from a range of R$ 4,5 to R$ 10 to a range of R$ 5 to R$ 10.
“These are two sectors that are and will remain heated throughout the year. A foreign trade professional, for example, is valued as companies seek to reduce costs by importing their inputs. They are importing more, especially from Asia.

And there are those that try to compensate for the loss of the domestic consumer market, selling their products in international markets, mainly with the greater competitiveness of national goods, with the exchange rate issue”, explains Isis Borge Sangiovani, manager of the Engineering and Supply Chain division at Robert Half.

About the Logistics sector, Isis points out that it is increasingly professionalized and has evolved. Before an area linked only to operations, today it has become strategic.

“Both the professionals who work in the logistics management of companies and deal with the port, as well as those dedicated to the port activity itself, are on the rise. A good Logistics professional creates opportunities for improving processes, increasing customer attraction, as he performs an operation with less losses along the way, greater traceability and, possibly, reduced costs. Logistics is increasingly strategic to better serve a customer”, says the division manager.

The valuation of professionals in this sector ends up behaving in a peculiar way, cites Isis Sangiovani. When the economy runs smoothly, logistics specialists are in demand like other functions. But when the market is “more challenging”, the demand for them increases.

In this area, vacancies can be occupied by production engineers, administrators or economists with specialization in Logistics. Chances increase when they have behavioral qualities, such as leadership and good communication, and certifications (especially APICS).

In the area of foreign trade, the professionals targeted are administrators and specialists in Foreign Trade. Fluency in other languages (English is a basic requirement), international experience and knowledge of the financial area also increase the chances of being hired, as well as a proactive and organized profile, points out Isis Sangiovani.
