“The growth of agribusiness is also intensifying the use of highways, as they have a much greater capillarity. Rural producers do not have many railway options”, notes Priscila de Souza Miguel, coordinator of the logistics center at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) in São Paulo. “Rail transport of agricultural products is growing, but very slowly. Ores still account for almost 80% of the volume of cargo transported by trains in Brazil”, adds consultant Maurício Lima, from the Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain (Ilos).
