For a retail company, transporting goods is an important part of the business, with effects on cash — due to the intensive use of fuel — and also on the environment — through the emission of pollutants. Imagine, then, for the largest retailer in the world?
At a recent sustainability meeting, the company unveiled a concept truck that is 20 percent more aerodynamic than its current fleet and features an engine that can run on natural gas, biodiesel, and “potentially, new forms of fuels still under development.” ”.
The prototype is also made almost exclusively with carbon fiber, which makes the vehicle lighter, at around 4 tons, reducing fuel consumption.
Testing with the Wave has already started, but there is no guarantee that it will actually get to run on the roads.
In the company's official blog, Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Walmart, states that, even if the vehicle is not incorporated into the fleet, it will allow testing new technologies and new approaches. “Sustainability is helping us to see things in new ways,” he commented.
