The integration of different transport modes can stimulate the migration of cargo to options with cheaper and more efficient freight, directly impacting the planning and cash flow of large companies and the so-called "Brazil cost." Today, the cost of cargo transportation in the country corresponds to 9% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to calculations by the Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain (Ilos), compared to 5,7% in the United States. When considering the total logistics operation, which also includes expenses for warehousing and inventory – high due to the unpredictability of deliveries of inputs and finished products – the Brazilian disadvantage is even greater. While the country spends 15,6% of its GDP on this account, the average logistics cost among members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is 8,4%.
