Experts point out that the mandatory increase in freight costs generates inflationary pressure and forces companies to seek alternative transportation methods. “To mitigate the impact, companies will look for alternatives, such as improving productivity, contracting comprehensive round-trip freight, avoiding paying for empty return trips. They will also evaluate acquiring their own fleet or hiring independent freight carriers with fixed remuneration,” says Maria Fernanda Hijjar, managing partner of the consulting firm Ilos.
