At the beginning of 2017, I wrote a post about the diesel price increase in Brazil. During this period, the price of this fuel, essential for the transport of road cargo in the country, was at the highest of its quotation. January and February 2017 were the months that registered the highest amount of diesel ever charged at Brazilian service stations (R$ 3,24/liter).
This scenario, however, changed in the following months. Brazil, after many years with virtually no price reduction, finally recorded a drop in the price of diesel at service stations. In July 2017, the average price of diesel was R$ 3,1/liter, after 5 consecutive months of decline.
This change in values is in line with Petrobras' new price policies, which officially began to take effect in July 2017, but which had already been taking place in practice since the end of 2016. Petrobras' guidance is that price adjustments may occur sales to the refineries whenever the team deems it necessary, which could even be daily, within a certain range of 7% (up or down). The previous guideline was that the readjustments would be once a month.
The new policies demonstrate an attempt by Petrobras to recover market share, which has been lost due to the increase in imports, especially diesel.
But unfortunately, for those who work in logistics, the slight downward trend in prices for this fuel at service stations was reversed again in August 2017, and the price of diesel returned to the level of the beginning of the year, closing the month at R$ 3,24, XNUMX/litre.

Diesel is the main logistical cost and has a direct impact on the competitiveness of Brazilian companies.
The topic of logistics costs in Brazil will be widely discussed at the 23rd International Supply Chain Forum, which will take place in São Paulo, from September 19th to 21st, 2017 (www.forum.ilos.com.br).
We meet there!
