Transport and logistics companies expect a month of May stronger than the sector's history. With the start of the World Cup in June, billing should be increased by anticipating the transport that would be done during the period of the games. Industry executives say that for some months now they have been in contact with their customers to organize a more intense transportation scheme for May.
This is the case of Atlas Logística, which operates throughout the country and has a quarter of its revenues coming from the pharmaceutical sector. In order not to run the risk of having delays in the delivery of medicines in June, mainly to hospitals, the company contacted customers to deal with the matter. “We have programmed an advance billing, mainly for the weeks of the games. Many customers are preparing for a higher volume in May”, says Lauro Megale, President of Atlas.
Luft Logística's concern is with air freight. According to Rafael Martau, Luft's business executive director, many companies are anticipating billings for May also for fear of possible interruptions of some networks during the World Cup period. Martau claims that the company is trying to organize itself so as not to depend so much on this modal, which tends to be overloaded with the increase in the flow of executive jets.
The same happens with the companies that transport the most demanded products during the World Cup, such as drinks, which should have a higher consumption in June and July. Coopercarga, which has Ambev among its main customers, says it has been planning to increase the volume of beverage deliveries in both May and June.
Last year, during the Confederations Cup, Coopercarga already had the experience of increasing volumes, says Osni Roman, president of the company. Now, prepare yourself for the same situation. According to the executive, the company is not expanding its staff or its fleet for the games, but is planning and adjusting scales.
Normally, companies tend to do an analysis of the route of the vehicles to outline the deliveries that will need to be made during the time of the games. According to the logistics company JSL, operations with the diagnostic medicine company Fleury, for example, should be evaluated in advance in the case of large urban centers that will host the event. For the deadlines required by the operation, the responsible team is setting up, together with the client, contingency plans to reduce or eliminate the impact of traffic on the routes and seeking alternative timetables.
Ritmo Logística, controlled by América Latina Logística (ALL) and which operates in the movement of cargo by road, says that, in general, it expects to have growth in orders during the World Cup.
In a recent interview with Valor, Luiz Alcantara, president of Ritmo, said that he expects a demand up to 25% higher than the average at the time in cargo handling. Among the loads that should show the most growth are those related to retail.
The effects of the Cup will also be felt in other segments linked to logistics, such as vehicle suppliers. Auto Sueco SP, a network of Volvo dealerships in several regions of the State of São Paulo, expects a positive result in the coming months, with the growth of charter services during the World Cup. The company's general expectation is to increase the share of the charter segment from 20% to 30% of the total bus business, much of it driven by the World Cup.
